57 Years. Unable To Reach Pap Smear Brush Inside Due To Mild Bleeding With Tissue Like Structure Inside. Advised Colonoscopy Directed Biopsy. Serious?
Hello Dr, my mother is 57 years old. Attained her menopause at 52. delivered 3 healthy children but had a vescicular mole at her 26 years and after 4 years delivered 1 child. Had a pap smear at her 37th year which was normal. Currently her blood counts are normal (Hb, WBC etc). her abdomen scan is normal (uterus ovaries endomedtrium etc). On an general check up, her gynaec could not reach the pap smear brush inside becos my mother started bleeding sligthly. and the dr felt that the vaginal oz itself is least visible and she said that there is a tissue like structure inside. Which she didnot disturb but advised for coloscopy directed biopsy. Is there anything serious. please advice
Hello Thanks for writing to us with your health concern. Without having a look at the cervix it is difficult to say if a serious pathology exists. It could be that due to age, the cervix is fibrosed and taken high up. It also could be a small growth or lesion on the cervix, since it bled to touch. Please go for the colposcopy , and the directed biopsy as advised. There is no point guessing or worrying since you would know the picture only after the procedure. Take care.
