6 Year Old With Fever, Abdominal Pain And Dry Cough. Taking Neurofen And Calpol. Should I Be Concerned?

Hi . My 6 yr old daughter has had a fever (102-104) since Sun evening. She complains of abdominal pain (her left hand side), and has started with a tickly, persistent dry cough. She is also mentioning pain under her arm pit. Generally she seems ok in herself, will chat etc. We are giving neurofen and calpol as required, plenty of fluids. Is there any reason for concern?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi

For fever continue with the medicines you give.
For cough, if its bothering, she might need some medications.
You may try cough lozenges/ steam inhalation at home.

If she is not getting better, its better to have her seen by Pediatrician, who will prescribe medications after examination of her throat and chest. Dry cough usually arises from throat. Cough suppressants can be used safely if chest is clear.

The pain she has on the abdomen and armpit, may be due to excessive cough and involvement of the muscles surrounding the rib cage and abdominal muscles. This will be taken care by the medications you give her. But if its persistent, you have to see your doctor.

Hope my answer helps you.
Wish a speedy recovery for your kid.
