6 Year Old With Lump On The Neck. Lump Getting Bigger With Cough. Should Be Concerned?
Hi my daughter is 6 and was in great health! I found a lump on right side of neck 8 weeks ago she had no other symptoms so I took the wait and watch approach! Now eight weeks later she has developed a harsh cough and the lump is slightly larger though not significantly. The lump is painless hard and can move up and down and is the size of a Lima bean with another little lump attached to its side! Don t have health insurance not sure if this is serious! I am treating the cough and temperature with Tylenol and robitussin . Ty for your time.
Hello I have gone through your complaints. Generally a lump which is gradually increasing can be a lymph node and an additional swelling adding to it can be another lymph node. Generally these lymph nodes swell if there is any focus of infection. Your child is having cough and fever which adds to infection. I suggest you to meet your near by pediatrician for a better opinion which can be made clinically after examining the swelling and if needed he will work out. One thing which has to be ruled out is tuberculosis if needed.
Thank you
Hi,
Thanks for your query,
Cervical lymphadenopathy is common problem in children and represents transient response to benign local or generalized infection.
It increase in size during respiratory tract infection.
But i advise you to get her examined by pediatrician, she needs investigations like CBC,ESR,X Ray chest to rule out any chronic infection.
Hi,
Thank you for your query,
This swelling is looking an enlarged cervical lymphnode and this enalrgement is due to some infection or inflammation in its draining area.
Consult your Pediatrician for the examination of the swelling and to look for any other similar swellings and evaluation and treatment.
Hope i have answered your query.
