Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here... I was diagnosed with strep throat and took cephalaxin for 10 days, then one week later my husband was diagnosed with strep and received antibiotics. A few days later I had a terrible sore throat and ear pain, so was prescribed another 10 days of Cephalaxin - 4 days into it I still have a terrible sore throat. Could I be immune to the Cephalexin and if so, would getting another strep test show if I still have it? We are leaving to travel out of the country in two days and I m not sure what to do.
You are suffering from continuous strep throat. Your symptom in indicative that your immunity is compromised and hence you have reduced antibacterial antibodies to fight infection. You have an inefficient immune response to Group A streptococcus infection.
Recurrent strep throat is a cause of concern. You should not touch your mouth or nose with dirty hands, stay away from sick and infected people. Do not share cups or utensils. Recurrent or continuous strep throat is treated with antibiotics. Sometimes, people are carriers of GAS, group A strep. They are also treated with antibiotics. Yes, if a particular antibiotic does not suit you, it should be changed after consultation with your treating doctor.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
