Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
69 Female,recurring Fever,blood And Mucus In Stool,high Neutrophil, Low Lymphocytes,on Levoflox.
My mother is having recurring fever, which goes down after taking paracetamol since yesterday. Today she passed stools( 2 times) with little blood and mucus. Dr. has started her on Levoflox. I can show her to a doc only tomorrow evening. Her lab reports indicate high neutrophils (80) and low lymphocytes(18). Is this serious? Does she need to be admitted immediately? Can it wait till tomorrow evening? She is 69 yrs old.
Hi and welcome to HCM,thank you for your query. This is not an emergency but more detailed tests should be done. High wbc indicate any inflamamtion process in our body and this is probably due to enterocolitis. But also some other infection sites can be considered such as lungs or kidneys. so she should do hemoculture and lung rtgh to rule out some more serious infections. Wish you good health. Regards
