7 Year Kid, Small Lump On Top Of Left Clavicle. Doctors Suggest To Wait, See If It Gets Bigger. Advice?

Good evening.
I have question about problem which I saw before 20 days on my daughter clavicule.
I have noticed at once small lump, in size smaller than pea, hard, in palpation just like bone, on top of the left clavicule where clavicule bone is connected to the sternum. It is not painfull. But i can see it very clearly on the top of clavicule bone. My child is 7 years old, in very good condition, and without any medical problems. She is very active child and in sport too.
I m very worried about this little lump. We took her to hers pediatric doctor, and he said to stay calm and wait if it s going to be bigger. I went with my child to the one more doctor, and he said me same too.
But, i hope you can understand me, i m worried for my child s health, and i want to hear one more opinion.
Thank you for your answer.

p.s. excuse me for my bad english :)

Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.
As the swelling is hard to feel, it should be arising from the underlying bone.
If the swelling is painful, with local warmth over that area along with fever, then it could be inflammatory in origin.

Painless bony swellings most propably will be bone tumours (don't get scared by this fact). Bone tumours can be Benign (relatively harmless) or Malignant (harmful cancers).

Benign bone tumours are usually slow growing in nature whereas malignant tumours are fast growing.

Clavicle is not the generally favoured site for malignant bone tumours ( hope this statement will bring down your anxiety). So I personally feel that it could be a benign lesion.

You need to observe the swelling constantly. If the mass is growing fast or if there is any change in its consistency (feel), you need to consult an orthosurgeon immediately.

Any expanding bony lesion needs a detailed evaluation to know its histological nature.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
