76 Years. Swelling In Ankle After Taking Amlodipine For High BP. Continue Medicine With Exercising, Elevate Legs And Weight Loss?
Five months ago I was taking Amlodipine 5 mg per day, but my doctor put me on another BP med as my ankles were swelling. Then I moved to another state and my present doctor has me on Amlodipine 2.5 mg twice daily. Again my ankles are swelling. Curious if I should be concerned or just continue taking this pill plus exercise, elevate my legs and lose weight, hopefully. Other BP meds I have taken made me cough a lot or made me light headed. I am a 76 yrs. old white woman and have been taking various BP meds for over 5 yrs. Thanks ahead of time for your advice, Betty
Hello the drug amlodipine will cause swelling of the legs which disappears after lying down with the legs elevated. If you able to tolerate the above symptoms, you can continue taking the drug as it is. There is alternative to amlodipine now, that is cilnidipine which causes no oedema, so I will advice you to consult your physician and his opinion. I hope you understood, take care and get well soon.
