89 Yr Old Female Suffering From Lower Back Pain, Neck And Shoulder Pain Even After Taking A Dozen Of Medicines?

I am inquiring about my mother s list of medications she is taking. She is having severe leg cramps and lower back pain as well as neck and shoulder pain. She does not sleep well at all and is up at least three or more times a night and cannot lay flat or in any one position for any length of time. She is miserable and drowsy all the time. She has recently had occipital nerve injections on both her left and right sides of her neck but it has not relieved much of her pain. She is taking synthroid for her thyroid, Plavix as a blood thinner, diovan for blood pressure, furosemide as a water pill, priolosec for acid reflux, potassium CL because of the water pill, premarin for hormone replacement, Aricept for her memory, metoprolol succinate for blood pressure, Zocor for her cholesterol, ropinirole HCL for restless leg syndrome, travoprost Z for her eyes, timolol maleate for her eyes, gabapentin for glossopharyngeal neuralgia, and a multi vitamin, and fish oil, and calcium plus D. Can the mix of all these medications be causing complications? I don t see how they can not be causing some sort of side effects. Have you ever heard of someone being on so many medications? I am so worried about her. She is 89 and still drives and is for all essential purposes deaf also.

hi, i understand your concern for your mother. As you rightly thought, all these drugs are going to have side effects. Considering her age, some problems are inevitable and hence can be ignored. it is not correct to address every small problem with a medicine at that age.The best option you have now is to request your doctor to cut down all the drugs that are not absolutely necessary. Hope this helped.
