9 Year Old Son, Suffering From Hernia. Taking Calpol. Greenish Bowel Movement. Normal?
My 9week old son has 3hernias (2 in his groin 1 goes back n stays there for a while the other is into his testicles, does go back in when pushed but comes back out) he has a hernia in his belly button. The hernia in his groin is very painful. He's on calpol. An he only has bowel movements every other day (normal for him) the last 2 movements have been green can you advice me on what I need to do as I'm very worried. He is having an operation in may. But I don't know what to do bout this greenish movement thicker than normal.
Hi and thank you so much for this query. I am so sorry to hear about what your son is going through.
Greenish stool often result from an infection(diarrhoea) or may just reflect the dietary intake of the child. If there are no other associated signs or worries, then i will ask you to observe a little longer. If the child ha watery stools with mucus or blood, then getting this checked out right away is the best thing to do. Hernia is not the cause of greenish stools.
For the hernias, surgical repair is mandatory. Because they are painful, it is an emergency to make sure we don't allow the intestines to get compromised before our interventions. Please hasten up and get the surgery your child needs before it gets too late to obtain the best possible results.
I hope you find this helpful and provides useful information for you to act on and make informed decision. I wish your soon the best of outcome as he gets the hernias and greenish stools sorted out. Dr. Ditah, MD.
