Abdominal Pain, Blood In Stools. Diverticulitis Or Colitis?
I ve been having pain on my lower right side of my abdomen and my back on the same side that has been coming and going for about a week but it s the worst it s been today. This morning I had blood in my bm and then again a few hours later. It s not just in the water but also in the bm itself. I m not sure if this is diverticulitis or colitis?? I ve also had pretty bad pain in both my knees for the past few months. I m not sure if this is related?
Hi,
Thanks for writing in.
The symptoms require further investigation.
Stool examination, complete blood counts, ultrasound examination, colonoscopy and proper clinical evaluation of the affected joints is required to arrive at a definitive diagnosis.
In the mean time a course of antibiotics (combination of floxacin and metronidazole) is mandatory.
There can be a relation of abdominal disease and joint disease especially in inflammatory bowel disease.
With regards
