Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

I can understand your anxiety. However I would like to have the following information:
1. Age of your mother.
2. Where and when does she complain of pain in her abdomen and since when?
3. A full ultrasound report as the information provided by you in incomplete.
The information provided suggests that your mother has a fluid filled cystic mass which is protruding from the umbilicus. The origin of this mass appears to be from the mass in the pelvis which is giving rise to collection of fluid in the Pouch of Douglas. The state of the ovaries and uterus is not mentioned. It has to be assessed whether the mass is arising from the ovaries or is a different entity. Hence the request for the detailed ultrasound scan.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your mother all the best.

Radiologist Dr. Vivek Chail's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

1. multiseptated cystic mass herniating through the umbilicus: This shows a mass inside the abdomen which is protruding out through the umbilicus.

2. heterogeneous mass seen in the pelvis: There is ?another mass in the hip region.

3. mass fluid in the POD: Fluid and mass is noted behind the uterus.

Putting above findings together, the first possibility of tumor and second possibility of infection need to be considered.

A biopsy is required to tell if it is a tumor and what kind of tumor. If it is an infection that has involved the abdomen and pelvis, biopsy result will confirm that.

Further treatment depends on what is the biopsy finding.

Hope this helps
