About To Have A Diagnostic Medical Branch Block, Any Advice?
Hi I am about to have a Diagnostic Medical Branch Block in my lower back. The first step is to test this with injecting anaesthic into the facet nerves, then if this is sucessful, it will be followed with a more permanent solution by a later procedure with detroying those nerves. Because I have been extremely overwhelmed by this procedure, I have not has the opportunity to ask what happens as side effects, if the needle etc in is in the wrong place. I was told that this was just a day procedure and all will be fine for the next day
Hi,
Welcome to healthcare Magic!
The Nerve block is a medical procedure under which a particular sensory nerve or ganglion is anesthetized by local infiltration of anesthetic medicine mostly under imaging guide.
The relief in pain is assessed after the infiltration.
If good relief then the nerve/ganglion can be destroyed with local infiltration of ethanol or other medication.
The procedure is safe but the pain may come back after long relief.
Sometimes there may be paralysis if the adjacent motor nerves get infiltrated by mistake or overflow.
I hope the advise would be informative and useful for you.
Take Care!
