Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for writing in to us.

It is good to know that your husband has stopped taking rajnigandha pan masala since two days. I hope he will stop it completely with your support.
You make take him to a de addiction center near your house and consult a psychiatrist specialised in de addiction.
They will counsel your husband on the harmful effects of smoking and addiction. With adequate motivation he will be able to stop smoking also.

Hope this helps

Nephrologist Dr. Rakesh Madhyastha's  Response
Hello

Thanks for the query

The first rule of de addiction is that patient himself should have the motivation to quit smoking or any habit for that matter. It is very difficult to make him stop if he is not motivated enough. What I would recommend is to seek professional help from a psychiatrist. Nicotine tablets have a fixed dosage and regimen which he will have to follow.
The uneasiness and change of behaviour could be part of his withdrawal symptoms, it should settle down in a week or two.

Psychiatrist Dr. Seikhoo Bishnoi's  Response
Hello
Some pan masalas contain tobacco also and its constituent nicotine is one of highly addicting substance. He was taking very high doses of pan masala and then suddenly left it. This has caused withdrawal symptoms in form of uneasiness, anxiety, poor interaction, insomnia etc symptoms. Although he is taking nicotine tabs still I think his doses are low. Ask him to stop smoking completely and to take nicotine tabs on SOS basis mean when required. If anxiety still persists then consult a Psychiatrist for management. Medicines like Bupropion, Buspirone etc are very useful.

Thanks
