Dear Dr. I have been smoking meth on weekends on and off for the past 2 years! I suddenly developed rashes on my forearms and now nothing over the counter is helping it. I am willing to stop using and finally getting rid of theses rashes. Help me what can I do?
You have been taking meth on weekends. Presently you have developed rashes on your forearms. You are experiencing the side effects of taking meth. It causes repetitive and compulsive skin picking that may results in excoriations and ulcers, etc. The rashes also occur due to the drug’s toxic effects. The sores can take weeks or months to heal and often leaves scars.
You should avoid scratching or picking at them, it will cause germs into the wounds. Take care of your hygiene and take bath regularly. Wear soft clean loose fitting cotton clothes. Stay well hydrated and take food in time, do not skip meals. You are suggested to visit ER and get the open sores if any cleaned and antiseptic dressing done by your health care provider.
Get the cleaning and antiseptic dressing done every alternate day. You can apply a thin layer of hydrocortisone ointment on the rashes if they are itchy, it will give relieve. If they are not itchy you can apply ointment Soframycin on it. Get connected to a detox center that will help you successfully get out of meth addiction. It will also take care of your symptoms during the time of withdrawal.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
