Adrenal Fatigue. Prescribed Hydro Cortisone. Dosage?

Hello, I suffer from adrenal fatigue, I think the cause is inheritance, my mother has it, I have been taking Hydro cortisone for nearly 2 years in total, 30 mg per day, because my cortisone levels are very low, and a substitute medicine is required .. I'm not taking HC just like that, I have been prescribed 30 mg per day, with a dose degression each 15 days, I have had 3 degressions of 5 mg per 15 days, but it didn't help, so the final diagnosis is that I must take it for life ..
I'd like to know the exact dosage of HC after giving my most recent cortisone level in my blood analysis.

Hi, thanks for asking inHealthcare Magic.

Low dose of Hydro cortisone daily is safe for long term use. Since the adrenal glands secrete both gluco and mineralo corticoid, both should be supplemented in case of adrenal deficiency to mimic the normal function of the adrenal gland. Right amount of substitution takes away the stress on the residual adrenal tissues.

The optimum dose ranges between 20 to 30 mg/day. To stimulate the normal pattern of release, you should take two thirds of dose in the morning and the remaining one third in the late afternoon. So try taking it that way and see if it helps. The correct dose is fixed according to one's BP, 24 hour salivary test, the level of electrolytes like sodium, potassium and urea, creatinine levels. Symptoms like irritabily and inability to sleep also indicate that you need dose reduction.

Symptoms greatly improve after an addition of Fludro cortisone as you need the mineralo corticoid supplementation too. Hydro cortisone is only a gluco corticoid and does not fully replace adrenal deficiency. Also you will need an increased dose in case of fever or any illness to tide over the crisis. Any change in the treatment schedule should be done only under your Dr's supervision and you should consult your treating Dr for further course of treatment.

Diet also plays a major rule in adrenal fatigue. You can get the details in net. Eat a nutritious breakfast preferably before 10 am, early lunch and snack between 2 to 3 pm to manage the drop that occurs around 4 pm and early dinner. Take vitamin supplements.

I hope this is helpful to you.
