After Removing Ovaries Through Surgery No Bowel Movements. Consult Online Doctor.

Hello there! My wife just had surgery on Monday, May 13 and she hasn't had a bowel movement since then and she is getting worried. She had her ovalires removed. She has been passing gas, drinking plenty of fluids, eating light, and I had her eat a apple and have a glass of milk and still nothing. We are starting to get worried and really don't know what to do? is there anything we can try first or should we call her doctor?

Hello,
It does happen so many times after surgery on your abdomen.
Bowels can be slow to get moving after surgery.
Drink lots of water, and some juices that start with the letter "p" such as prune, pear, pineapple, peach, or papaya, as they also have a laxative effect. Lastly, take short walks around the house or out to the end of your driveway as often as you can tolerate but don't overdo it.
Stool gets rock hard in large colon when you don't pass motion for several days, because large colon keeps on absorbing water from the residue.
Since it is already more than six days, the best would be to get an enema.
This shall remove the hard stool.
After the bowel becomes clear after enema, you  may take some laxative  like MIRALAX or COLACE for few days.
Nothing to worry. It s quite natural and shall settle soon.
Thanks
