Am I Prone To Shingles If Had Chicken Pox In My Early Twenties?

Am I immune from shingles? I had chicken pox as a child and then had shingles in my 20 s when my children had chicken pox. I am now in my 60s and wonder if I am at risk since so many contemporaries are being diagnosed with shingles. Should I consider getting the vaccine?

Hi,

Yes, anyone who has ever had chickenpox can develop shingles (herpes zoster).

Those who recover from chickenpox infection in their early life, the virus that causes the infection remains latent in nerve cells and upon its reactivation this may result in shingles.

You are at a risk of developing shingles hence you are advised to take the shigella vaccine to prevent the recurrent attacks of shingles.
