Am Pregnant. Had PUJ Obstruction Surgery With Complications. What Care Should I Take?
I had PUJ obstruction surgery with some complications (high blood loss, lapscropic didn t work, first results are showing no improved right kidney function) 4 months ago and now discovered I am pregnant ( unplanned) what will I need to be careful of in this pregnancy? ( it is my 3rd pregnancy) Will I be able to carry to full term?
Hi,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
Your ability to carry this pregnancy depends on your overall kidney function & your general health.
I think you should report your pregnancy immediately to your treating physician. Your doctor will evaluate your kidney function & then can advise you about pregnancy.
In addition you must see a specialist Obstetrician as early as possible to assess your general health & for antenatal booking.
A team approach including your urologist & obstetrician can give your future plan of management & prognosis.
Wish you best of luck
Hi thanks for your question.
One important point in history you have not mentioned is duration of pregnancy. Anyway surgery 4 month back, is not going to harm your pregnancy now. The only fear is the teratogenic effect of the drug which you received during surgery and effects of drug which taken in post operatively.
Anaesthetic drug used during surgery don't have any teratogenic effects.I would suggest you to consult a gynaecologist, who may be able to examine you and get your ultra sound done to rule out any congenital abnormality of your baby due to the effects of drugs used, postopeatively.there is no special precautions which you may have to take for this pregnancy except the usual one, avoiding stress, taking adequate balanced diet. Your gynecologist may advice you some more. Hopefully you will be able to carry your pregnancy to full term.
Hope this answers your question.
