An Ultrasound Found A Hypoechoic Lesion In The Right Hepatic Lobe And A Blood Test Revealed Raised Liver Enzymes. What Could The Diagnosis Be?

An ultrasound found an enlarged measurering 18.1 cm. Increased hepatic echogenicly. Hypoechoic 3.5x2.7x3 cm lesion in the right hepatic lobe. Also previous blood test for last two years resulted raised liver enzymes. An MRI and liver function test have been ordered but I would like to just be aware of some of the possibilities of what this might be.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Hypoechoic lesion on ultrasound can have so many causes. It can be a hemangioma, which is benign and not worrisome. Other possibilities are pus (which may be accompanied by fever and pain), or cyst or infarction.
If patient has chronic liver disease or cirrhosis, then the possibility may be of a malignancy as well. So we need to go ahead with scans to understand the cause exactly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
