My 4 year old daughter was diagnosed with a sinus infection 10 days ago she is taking her last dose of antiobiotic tommorow she is still coughing and that awful congested sound what do you think also she gets sick alot once every 2 weeks now she is in pre k
Persistence of cough & congestion even after completion of antibiotic therapy indicates the persistence of the causative organism/ etiological factor. Kindly consult her treating Doctor for antibiotics based on culture & sensitivity reports. The symptoms of getting sick once every 02 weeks as mentioned in your post suggest that your daughter might be having Tracheo-bronchial allergy.
Management includes: 1. Antihistamine preparations like Allegra & Cough expectorant syrup for symptomatic relief. 2. Montelukast preparation at night as a maintenance therapy. 3. Maintain adequate hydration & a healthy balance diet. 4. Warm salt water gargle & steam inhalation. 5. Also make sure that she is well protected from cold, dust & other allergens.
Wishing her a good health. Take care.
