My one and a half year old son burned the bottom of his foot on a half put out campfire this past Saturday. I took him to the doctor, who told us to keep it clean, continue putting Lydocaine and triple antibiotic cream on it and alternate with Tylenol and Ibuprofen to take away the pain. It is now Tuesday and he has started to develop a slight fever, the initial burn looks clean but is slightly discolored, I am assuming this is the healing process but the burn is now even more tender and he seems to be in even more pain that he was at first. I have been alternating with the lydocaine and antibiotic cream and doubling up his socks on that foot so he is able to walk around while he is awake (Keeping him down is impossible and keeping him from standing or walking is seriously a joke.. this boy is the energizer bunny, no kidding) and when he is asleep I have been leaving his foot open in the air to try and dry out the burn. Poor thing is miserable and I just don’t know what to do from here. Should I take him back to the doctor? How do I know if I should or not? How do I know if it is healing properly? Are there any tips or tricks to helping it heal quicker or even making the pain more bearable for him? I can’t stand to see him so hurt, it breaks my heart.. if there is anything I can do, please let me know..
