Applying Neosporin On Child's Nose Which Got Wounded And Stitched. How To Care Wound After Sutures Are Removed?
Hi, My daughter is 3 1/2 years old. 3 days back she fell and this caused a cut on her face above the nose and below eyebrows. We took her to hospital and doc had to put 4 stitches to close the wound. They have asked us to clean the wound daily and apply neosporin antibiotic ointment and get the sutures removed in 5 days. I was really concerned about the scarring and how do we care for the wound once the sutures are removed. Also do we keep the wound covered until it completely heals because she might tend to scratch if it becomes itchy. Kindly advise.

Children have got a miraculous healing power, and wounds especially on face if managed appropriately heal well without much scarring. It is advisable to keep the facial wounds open, as covering them will lead to bacterial infection because of heat and sweating(incubator effect). Your doctor has rightly advised to remove suture on day 5, as sutures retained for longer time will lead to stitch marks
In case you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.
