Are Ambien And Tylenol PM Extra Strength Safe During Advanced Pregnancy?
Hello,I am 33 weeks and 4 days pregnant. I had a really bad panic attack that last 5 hours and no sleep for 24 hours. I went to the hospital. They gave me ambien and another med I don t remember what. Anyway I took the first med at 6:50 Am and the Ambien around 8 Am or so. At a little after 9:30 tonight I realized I couldn t relax again. My pharmacist told me I could take Tylenol PM Extra Strength and it would be safe. I am now freaking out about what may happen to me and the baby. I only took one and not the two that it said I could. Will the baby and I be fine or have I overdosed myself?
As far as the safety of Tylenol PM strength during pregnancy is concerned there is no documented evidence any clear association with birth defects, miscarriage, or adverse maternal or fetal outcomes and hence it is considered to be safe. However, ambien should be used during pregnancy only when clearly needed.
If taken by the mothers in the last 3 months of pregnancy, the babies born may develop unusual sleepiness, trouble breathing, and withdrawal symptoms. Although you have taken only one tablet of ambien the possibility of harmful effects in your new born baby are less however, seek medical help right away if you notice any unusual symptoms in your newborn.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
