Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Are BCCA Capsules Advisable For An Elderly Person To Enhance Workout Performance?
I work out regularly at the gym and talk to various members. Several said they take BCAA-Branch chained branch chained amino acids which can provide additional energy for workout and also prevent muscle breakdown after workout. Do you recommend taking this supplement to enhance workout performance? As a point of information, I am 70 yrs old.
Hello, At 70 years, usual protein requirement is not more than .8 g per lg per day. Only if one is doing strenuous strength building exercise there may be a need for additional protein. Whether it is BCCA or simple proteins (egg white, whey protein) it hardly makes any difference. If one is a pure vegetarian then protein intake is invariably low. If your diet provides adequate proteins then the need for additional protein is unlikely to be there.Additional BCCA or regular protein are equally beneficial if you are doing vigorous strength building exercise. Thanks
well aminoacid is the metabolc product of protiens and taking protient bfr or after workout wil help you.but a wise option will be taking the in natural form like eggs ,beans etc.
