Are Chronol 500mg Disulfiram Tablets Safe For Consumption?
Hi Doctor, My brother-in-law is consuming alcohol daily. My friend suggested to use Chronol 500mg Disulfiram tablets. We are currently using the same and getting good results. We are mixing half of the tablet in a tea and is offered to my brother-in-law, he does not know that he is not taking alcohol because of these tablets. My brother-in-law is not drinking now a days. When we stop these tablets he is starting taking alcohol. Can you please tell me if these Chronol 500mg Disulfiram tablets consumption is safe or not. And also if possible please advice me for the same issue.

Disulfiram is an anti dependent drug used for alcohol de-addiction. It prevents the conversion of alcohol, thus causing untoward reactions that make the individual abstain from alcohol intake. Even little amount of alcohol can cause the effects. Avoid food containing alcohol, cough supplements, hair dye, deodorants, etc. Disulfiram causes headache, flushing of face, nausea following intake of alcohol which make the patient to stop taking alcohol. Common side effects are headache, blurred vision, mental confusion, drowsiness, fatigue, metallic taste. It should be taken with counselling which has best effect. Advise to take the tablet as a whole without breaking it.
