hello dr-lake my mom has gone through engioplasty 4 years as her main arterty (LAD) was 70% blocked. she visits doctor on a regular basis and every time doctor do ECG which come fine each time so he does not recommend any other test but now she visited another doctor for second opinion again doctor does ECG which come fine but then he told that you should also do TMT,ECHO to get a more clearer picture.I want to ask whether whether these test are necessary even if ECG comes out to be normal.please help.
Hello and welcome to HCM, ECG is a preliminary investigation to assess the cardiovascular system. However, since your mother has a history of blockage of major coronary artery, I would suggest you to get more advanced and more informative tests done. Echocardiography and TMT tests are more advanced and more informative tests. Echocardiography enables us to assess the chambers and valves of the heart well. TMT test enables us to assess the status of heart during activity. Thus, get these tests done as directed by your doctor.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
