Are X Rays Effective In Diagnosing The Problem For Severe Constipation?

I have a friend ( yes, he really is) who went in to our local ER with Constipation, It came back clear and he was sent home. My friend in the past has been hospitalized with depression, etc. He felt like he was rushed out of the ER. Is the xray a good diagnostic tool, would it have picked up any red flags ??

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Yes, on constipation due to various causes,x ray is primary tool to suspect intestinal obstruction and then USG scan,CT scan, Barium enema may be advised as per treating doctor's intuition. Constipation to routine cause can be self cared for at home.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
