Are Antibiotics Advisable For Sore Throat And Pyrexia?

Hi
I started with a sudden onset of hoarseness sore throat and pyrexia of 39.5 despite antipyretic that lasted for 24 hours in the following 48 hours since then I have been apyrexial and started with coryzal symptoms and loss of voice however the sore throat has been feeling worse and looks like I have ulcers in the soft palate behind my uvula and feels like I have the same down near my voice box my question is Do I need to go to the gp for antibiotics even though i no longer feel as unwell?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you are having a Viral infection causing upper respiratory tract infection and the symptoms of mild fever and other coryzal symptoms of coughing, cold, sneezing etc along with sore throat and laryngitis causing loss of voice..
I would suggest you to still take a short course of antibiotics as there is a common superseded bacterial infection..
You can take augmentin or zithromycin, if still fever occurs take tylenol, for pain in throat take Ibuprofen, decongestant like Phenylephrine and cough expectorants..
Doing steam inhalations, warm saline gargles can further help..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards,
Honey Nandwani Arora.
