I have returned recently from borneo and developed a full body rash which lasted for about 5 days with severe headaches but no fever. I have been to my GP and been tested for numerous viruses - my dengue results came back as equivocal and I have had a further test - I don't understand what this means - any advice? I'm assuming that I have dengue since this appears on my results but just need to wait for results - I have a good imagination so have formulated the worst in my mind
Hello, thank you for consulting with healthcaremagic. It is true that headache and rash are the symptoms of Dengue but it is also accompanied by fever. It is confirmed after the investigations as your GP has advised , and if it is equivocal means there is confusion between 2 diseases so he has advised you further investigation. Then you should wait for the result of the investigation. Hope it will help you. Take care.
Welcome to HCM. There might be dengue fever because it also occurs during travelling in some part of world. Investigations can be done by virus isolation in cell cultures, nucleic acid detection by PCR, viral antigen detection (such as for NS1) or specific antibodies (serology). Take nsaid round the clock to subside headache, fever. Rashes can be occur during regression phase. Be watchful for your general condition and routine blood parameters. There is no specific medicine to treat dengue infection. You should also rest, drink plenty of fluids, Apply calamine, aloevara lotion on rashes. Keep in touch with your doctor.
