Are Cramps, Soft Stools And Red Spots In Pelvis Side Effects Of Enterogermina And Diacort?

Hello, I have just been visiting Costa Rica and while there became ill. I had a stool sample tested and the lab result showed a bacterial infection with moderate increase in white blood cells. I went to a doctor in C.R. who prescribed the medicines Enterogermina, DIACORT, and Sertal Compuesto. Tomorrow is my last day on these medications. I am feeling better, although I am still having intestinal cramps and soft stools. Tonight I have developed several red spots (about half the size of a baby aspirin) across my pelvic area and in my pubic hair. Could this just be side effects from the drugs?

Hello,
Glad to hear that you are recovering well from your illness. I would like to briefly explain you the medications first. Enterogermina is a probiotic which means it helps in increasing the normally living good bacteria in your intestine. Diacort is an antibiotic that contains the drug with the generic name Nifuroxazide and sertal compuesto is an analgesic to relieve the pain. Moving on to your question, Diacort is kind of most commonly used drug for abdominal discomfort and related illnesses in costa rica and it is known to cause a side effect of skin rash. So it would be better to reconfirm with your physician if you are experiencing this side effect. The cramps might be probably due to the soft stools that leads to increased bowel movements. With probiotics and gradual cessation of antibiotic this should resolve. If needed you can increase your analgesic dose or try other otc analgesic like Ibuprofen 500mg. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
