Are Diarrhea, Extreme Fatigue And Loss Of Appetite In The Age Of 87 A Cause For Concern?

my 87 year old Mother has been very tired for the last 36 hours, not eating much at all, and has diarrhea, she is sleeping now and has been most of the day, saying she is tired . It is a weekend, should I take her to the emergnecy room or wait to Monday to see her doctor?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

If she is having diarrhea with fatigue, then it might be a presentation of dehydration or some electrolyte imbalance. Therefore, in my opinion, she should be examined by a doctor, to evaluate her health status, particularly for dehydration and/or electrolyte imbalance & treatment done accordingly, if needed.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
