Are Dietary Changes Enough To Reduce Over Weight?

My husband is 41 and just had an overall checkup that found the following: high cholestorol, elevated liver enzymes, & left axis deviation. He is 5'11 & 182 lbs. He was told to change his diet and exercise because he is 10lbs overweight, then come back in 6 weeks for another ekg & bloodwork. He eats heart healthy at home but does consume 3-4 beers in the evening & sodas at school. Heart disease runs in his family on both father & mother's side. Are dietary changes enough or should he be more concerned?

Thanks for using healthcaremagic.I understand your concern.
It would be better to have lipid profile(LDL,HDL,Triglyceride levels) report to provide better opinion.
Assuming lipid parameters not much deranged(i.e Values with no to low risk of coronary artery disease),I too would have just advised him only with dietary modifications and lifestyle changes for initial 3 to 6 months.I would also advise him to limit alcoholic beverages to one serving a day.Follow up with the doctor as he was advised to.Hope i have answered your query. If any further questions, happy to answer you..Take care
