Are Headaches After An Injury A Matter Of Concern?

My son was playing at school on Thursday when he ran into a fence hitting his temple on a nail and falling to the ground. Did not lose consciousness, but has an outline of a nail head on a swollen temple. He s not vomiting, but is complaining about headaches. I ve been giving Tylenol, but should I be worried?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Trivial head injury may be associated with headache. You should be looking for any dangerous sign of deterioration like persistent severe headache, vomiting, loss of consciousness or seizures.

Get a CT head in such a situation.
