my sister just had a heart attack and she had a surgery where the dr inserted something in her heart to open the valve I believe. She got home this morning and now she is having hot flashes. Is that normal.

No, it is not normal to have hot flushes after cardiac procedures, at least after discharge from hospital. There must be some reason for such a phenomenon which can be anxiety, medicines or a medical condition.
I request you to see your physician on priority.
A visit to ER would be worthwhile.

hot flushes could be of any hormal therapy just enquire about what medications she is taking. if she complains of active chest pain or profuse sweating or dizzy feeling. get vitals checked and do ecg to rule out any significant myocardial ischemia .
