Hello, I ve been taking Elinest for about 3 months now. I went on a diet and I ve lost 25 pounds in two months and I ve missed my period. I take them as perscribed everyday and I noticed last month my menstrual cycle was lighter than normal. Is this normal?

Hi,

Elinest is a hormonal oral contraceptive pill containing two hormones progestin and estrogen which play vital role in menstrual cycle. These hormones decrease the chances of pregnancy be preventing release of egg that is preventing ovulation, changing the lining of uterus which inhibits attachment of the fertilized egg and making the vaginal fluid thicker that inhibits the motility of the sperm which in turn inhibits fertilization.

These hormones make the cycles regular, also decrease the amount of blood flow during the menstrual cycle and also decreases the pain during menstruation. It reduces the chance of ovarian cyst formation. Common side effects are nausea, vomiting, headache, etc. Change in weight is also noticed with this medicine.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
