Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Are Irritability, Anxiety, Tiredness And Itchy Skin Symptoms Of Hypothyroidism?
I had a total thyroidectomy on 22nd May. I have had my thyroxine medication increased to 125. I am suffering from irritability, anxiety, tiredness and very very itchy skin. My tongue is also starting to feel numb and swollen. Could this be due to low thyroid levels. I m feeling awful
As per my clinical experience, the history of total thyroidectomy and symptoms of irritability, anxiety, tiredness, itchy skin, swollen tongue do favor possible hypothyroid state. The weight alteration is a major criteria not mentioned here to correlate. It is strongly recommended to get a latest report of serum free T3, free T4 and Thyroid stimulating hormone levels for proper clinical correlation and guidelines accordingly.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
