Are Persistent Fever And Irritability In A Toddler Suggestive Of Viral Meningitis?
my grandson had a fever 102 several days ago now is very irritable, with periods of unconsolable crying, US done for intusseception which was negative. told stomach bug but eating little and continues to have periods of inconsolable crying . drinking some. Do you thing there could be a chance he would have viral meningitis?I am a nurse and this behavior for this child is very very unusual. He is a very mellow relaxed child. He seems to be in pain. lcevenson1951@ gmail.com
In the case of meningitis, there is the presence of vomiting and some abnormal neurological signs. In your child, this type of presentation is not there. So the chance of meningitis is less.
However, through detailed neurological examination and some more clinical history meningitis can be ruled out. You can discuss it with paediatrician doctor and get your child examined by him.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
