Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi , I m actually a first year medical student and I ve been really curious about something for the past week. I can feel a pulse in the middle of my jugular notch , while my friends say that they can t feel any pulse in theirs. I read up about it and only came with the conclusion that people suffering from aortic aneurysms have this pulse. Could you tell me exactly what this pulse is and why many other people don t have it ?
It is just your aortic arch and while in some it can be easy felt, in some it cannot purely because built and so on, and is absolutely no cause for concern. When we were medical students, there was a saying floating around amongst laymen that 'half a doctor is much more dangerous than a layman', it simply means that your knowledge and information is not complete and so you can jump to conclusions which may be incorrect.
Best wishes.
