Are Shortness Of Breath And Stomach Discomfort Normal After Donating Blood Plasma?

My 19 yr oldold daughter donated plasma for the second time, ever, today. The first was two days ago. She said after each time, when the blood was returned to her, she had very uncomfortable symtomssymtoms of having a cold feeling, shortness of breath and chest hurting. These feelings last the entire time the blood is being returned to her body. Today, however, she has felt very sick to her stomach since donating. She followed all directions and ate and drank before and after. Not sure what s going on.

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Her symptoms could be suggestive of a possible reaction to the plasma exchange or to blood cells destruction during this passage. For this reason, I recommend going to the ER for a physical exam and some tests (complete blood count, bilirubin plasma levels, kidney and liver function tests).

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
