Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I developed a sore throat a few days ago, followed a very bad, hacking cough. I don t feel all run down as if I have a cold, and there s no nasal congestion, either. I don t smoke (never have), and the cough is more severe than something I would get from a typical pollen allergy. Could it be bronchitis, or something else?
Sore throat & cough may be due to allergy, pollen, pollution or dry air, etc. But it can also be due to viral or bacterial infection. You should use warm saline water (mix little salt in warm water) to gargle 2-3 times a day. Take medicinal lozenges (strepsils, etc) to prevent dryness of the mucosa. Use a humidifier, its effective. Give your voice rest. You can take syrup Grilinctus, 10 ml twice daily for 5 days. However, you are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP, get sputum & swab tests, blood tests & X-Ray chest done to detect the pathology causing you discomfort. You may need antibiotics. Get treated at the earliest.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
