Are Swollen Lymph Nodes And Hypothyroid Signs Of HIV?
My 19 year old son was just told he is HIV positive with only one test. His lymph notes are swollen and I have hypothyroid. His doctor initially provided him with thyroid medicine while awaiting test results. Could this be an error in the testing. I know that they are running more tests now and it is a waiting game. Could this have just been a false positive and it could be his thyroid?
Thyroid disorder does not cause false positive result for HIV. HIV screening is done by ELISA test and confirmation is done by Western blot test. Error happens during testing. You can repeat the test in a different laboratory. Hypothyroidism does not cause lymph node enlargement. HIV infection may cause lymph node enlargement. At this stage what you should do – you repeat the test in a different well reputed laboratory – first by ELISA – it turns positive – then make it confirm by Western blot test. Thanks
