Are There Any Side Effects Of Taking Double Dose Of Amoxicillin?

I may have accidentally double dose on amoxicillin. Is this serious? 58 yrs. old 5ft. 1 1/2 in. Taking meds for fluid behind right ear. Also taking a decongestant(sudafed) with amoxicillin. Counted remaining pills and found 18 left. Should have had enough for 10 days/twice a day. Worried I may have taken 2 pills at once.

Hi,

Amoxicillin is a penicillin type antibiotic that is used in the treatment of various bacterial infections like pneumonia, bronchitis, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, ear, eye or throat infections, dental abscess and many more. This medication should be taken in the doses and duration as directed by the prescribing doctor. But if you accidentally take a double dose of Amoxicillin, it usually doesn't cause serious problems, but it may increase your risk of side effects and develop some mild symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea etc.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Zubayer Alam, General And Family Physician,
