Are There Braces For The Knee?

I am 5 feet tall and weigh about 63 kilos. I have polio in my left leg, and below the knee on my right leg. I wear calipers for the left leg for the past 60 years. I am 65 years old. I have now got arthritis on my right knee. Are there any braces etc. available for supporting the knee, if so, where can I get it in Chennai. Mala

Hi,

As per your height, weight is normal so this is a positive thing. Then, due to one limb polio, you need to suffer and bear more weight on other normal limb, which is very quite natural. Brace can be used to support the knee joint just 15% otherwise main treatment will be strengthening of muscles around the knee joint. My suggestion is to go for physiotherapy, rather than using brace alone.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
