Are There Chances Of Getting Pregnant Having Diagnosed With LSIL And Positive For HPV Virus?

Hi, I have been diagnosed with LSIL/CIN1 and tested positive for the HPV virus on my recent pap test. I have evidence of an epithelial (?) lesion. I am now on a waiting list for a colposcopy and possible biopsy. I am freaking out, even though I know that these are relatively common results. What are my chances that this will resolve itself without treatment, or am I likely to need treatment of some kind? My mum says they will almost definitely do the biospsy, seeing I have the LSIL lesion. What happens if it is a lesion, what are the chances that this will resolve itself without further treatment? I read that the chances of it turning out to be higher grade lesions that must have treatment are as high as 20%. Does this mean that it will most likely continue to be a problem throughout my life, as I have this HPV virus? I am only 34. We were going to get pregnant for the first time in the next few months (that was the plan, anyway). Should I wait until after the biopsy now, or should we get on with it in case this develops into something worse and we can t have kids later? Would appreciate your advice. Thank you. Anna

Hi,

Welcome to HCM.

Low grade squamous intraepithelial lesion/Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia 1 is mild cervical lesion but may progress to malignancy if it is associated with High risk Human papilloma virus type 16, 18, 31. I would suggest you wait for the biopsy result and then plan a pregnancy. HPV if high risk types then you need to get the treatment done as they predispose to malignancy rather than other types. The treatment is basically to get rid of the cervical tissue carrying the abnormal cells and the HPV. The options include LEEP and conization. These options can be discussed with your treating doctor as to which treatment option suits you better.
You can plan a pregnancy after the treatment is done. Low grade SIL has less chances of getting complicated so do not worry about not getting pregnant later. Thanks.
