i was looked at by a newrosurgeon yesterdayand he told me i needed surgery, everyone is telling me i should get a couple more opinions.I am in a lot of pain right now and dont want to wait any longer,I had therapyand pain pills and also went to a chropractor for the past 6 months, nothing seems to help.I have a lot of arthirits on my back and my discs are sliping.d0 you think i have to see more newrosrgeons before i decide to get operatedon?there are only two in town i would have to go to cleveland and wait so more.thank you
The standard teaching is that if the symptoms are not resolving with conservative management for over a period of 6 months , then surgical decompression of the disc is indicated.
Also, if more than 2 consulting surgeons have suggested surgical management, then i feel its the right decision.
You have tried all possible medical option available but in vain.
So now the other way out is surgery.
It is always better to have a second opinion if you're not able to make a decision. But if that is going to delay and make your condition worse and permanent then stick to the first opinion.
You need to decide what is best for you.
