Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I used to take glipizide 2.5 in AM and 2.5 in PM. My doctor recently doubled my dosage to 5mg in AM and 5mg in PM. Said my sugar levels are worse than the last time I had them checked. I also take a time release of Metformin RX to tabs but I don t remember what the dosage is. How much more can my diabetic meds be adjusted before she starts suggesting insulin shots?
thank you for posting your query in healthcaremagic.com.....
well there are some guidelines regarding when insulin should replace oral hypoglycemic agents in type 2 DM....
fasting blood sugar more than 250 random blood sugar more than 300 HbA1C levels more than 10%
also if there are some specific features associated with subnormal sugar levels, then also insulin can be started in a low dose... however that depends upon the physician....
i would suggest you to consult a DIEBETOLOGIST or ENDOCRINOLOGIST and he would be able to prepare a drug schedule for you, with or without insulin according to your need....
hope this was helpful.... you can contact me for any further queries...
regards
