Baby Prescribed Clotrimazole For Ringworm On Both Cheeks. COndition Worsened After Applying Cream. Solution?
Hello Dr: My 12 month old son has ringworm on both his cheeks. Our pediatrician recommended Clotrimazole 1% USP and we have been applying the cream on our son for two days. His condition has gotten worse and now both his cheeks are bright red and feels warm. Should I stop applying the cream on my son's cheeks or should I continue to apply the cream for another 2 weeks? I hope there is no permanent scaring.
Yes I think you should stop the Clotrimazole cream as his skin condition has worsened. Does he normally get dryness or dry cheeks? Wait till the skin redness gets better. You could try using an oral antifungal like Fluconazole and an antibiotic cream (Bactroban/Fusidin Cream). The redness and warmth could be a secondary skin infection from the breakage in the skin barrier. Hope he gets better soon.
