Back Pain. Had A Lumbar Plexis Block. On Morphine. Now What?
Hi My 24 yr old daughter had a lumbar plexis block in Jan 2013......for a week after the proceedure she was sore , for 3 weeks after that she was fine , but almost 3 weeks ago she developed bad back pain again as bad or even worse than before having the block...................docs have put her on morphine / pain killers but she is not getting any relief ...is this normal after having the block?? regards Chris Ryan
Basically Lumbar plexus block is indicated for Hip surgery, Anterior thigh & knee surgeries. I just don't understand the rationale and logic of lumbar plexus block in back pain.
Anyway,an MRI scan of Lumbar spine is needed to know the exact cause of back pain.
The possible complications after a lumbar plexus include - Infection, Hematoma formation, toxicity of the local anesthetic drug, risk of nerve injury etc.
I personally feel that the cause for increased pain after the procedure could be due to either infection or due to formation of a hematoma.
A thorough evaluation is needed to diagnose the exact problem.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day
