Bad Cough, Taking Allerzet, No Relief. What Should Be Done?

I was given by my doctor last Saturday with allerzet 5mg n montelukast 10mg to be taken at night time coz I was complaining of a bad cough at night...though I was just taking it for four days but I m kinda impatient with the result coz I see minimal progress...should I already request for antibiotic eventhough she recommended that prescribed meds be taken within 10days? Or should I wait til I finish the prescribed dosage? Thanks

Hello and welcome to HCM,

At the offset let me mention that what you are feeling is quite normal and your condition will definitely get better.

Some things for your consideration:
1. The tablets which you are already taking are anti allergy tablets which have no direct bearing on your cough.
2. If you have started to get fever, body pain, throat pain and wet cough then four days is definitely the time to start an antibiotic like the amoxycillin-clavulanate 625 for five days. Your doctor will know about this.
3. Reflux is also the main cause of cough so you must also start an anti reflux tablet like pantoprazole twice daily before food for two weeks. Your doctor should know about this too.
4. Do steam inhalation and do not take anything cold
5. Avoid head bath, oily and spicy food for the next week.
6. If you do not get better in a week or two then you must take a throat swab and Chest X ray and get back to me with the reports.
7. Meanwhile you can continue the anti-allergy medications prescribed by the doctor.

take care and get well soon
