Bad Pain Through Right Leg, On Strong Pain Medicines After Back Surgeries, Cutting Down Roxicodone. Nerve Pinching ?

I've had 2 back surgery's and suffer on a daily basis. I'm under the care of a pain management which I see every other month. The last week I have started suffering really bad pain through my right leg. The strong pain meds I use are not touching this pain. I was just perscribed a new med called Gabapentin, perscribed to take 3 daily. Normally, I would have an epidural, but they are quite expensive and I've not made my deductible this year. Do you suggest I bite the bullet and get the epidural. In the last 2 months, I have gone from 6 Roxicodone down to 4 daily this month. I wanted to cut down on my meds and my Doctor was quite pleased. I have done great with the way, they slowly cut back on the pills, no withdraws and felt pretty ok. This new leg pain, is it because I cut down on my pills or is this simply a nerve being pinched ? I got an x-ray last month, nothing had changed much. 6 bolts and screws (1st surgery) and a casting around the screws (2nd surgery). Any thoughts or remarks are appreciated. I'm 59 years old and weigh about 120. Thank you.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The radiating pain through the right leg that you are feeling can be due to a nerve root compression. This can be properly diagnosed after an MRI scan of the back.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
